Tessa

Meet Tessa: Primary Tutor Who Turns “I Can’t” into “I Get It!”

Tessa brings a rare mix of brains, heart, and humour to every lesson. Currently studying a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) at the University of Sydney (and minoring in Criminology because, why not?), she’s fascinated by how young minds learn, and how confidence transforms everything.

While studying at Sydney Girls High,Tessa tutored at a variety of boutique and large-scale tutoring centres, and worked with students from all backgrounds — including those who once thought “maths” was a scary word (spoiler: it’s not, and she’ll prove it to you).

But here’s the twist: Tessa once hated maths herself. Thanks to one amazing teacher, she fell in love with problem-solving and now spends her days helping other students discover that same “aha!” moment. One parent described her as “something special” in the education world… and we couldn’t agree more.

When she’s not teaching, Tessa can usually be found overpacking her bag “just in case,” or talking about her favourite study strategy — blurting (no, really, it’s a thing!). She’s the kind of tutor who’ll remind you that it’s okay not to know yet — because learning is supposed to be fun, messy, and full of lightbulb moments.

Nick

Meet Nick: Peer Mentor & All-Round Role Model

Nick might be one of the youngest members of our team, but he’s proof that age has nothing to do with impact. A passionate Year 9 student and talented rugby player, Nick brings energy, empathy, and encouragement to every class he helps in.

As a current Future Focus Hub student himself, Nick knows what it’s like to feel unsure at school — and how much difference the right support can make. That experience inspired him to become a Peer Mentor, helping younger students not just with their homework, but with life at school in general. Whether it’s advice, a bit of encouragement, or someone who simply “gets it,” Nick’s the person students can turn to.

Nick is a quick learner and incredibly coachable, always eager to take feedback on board and turn it into action. He’s not a qualified professional (yet!), but that’s exactly what makes him so relatable… he gets it. He’s warm, easy to talk to, and genuinely cares about helping others grow, both in and out of the classroom.

Whether he’s sharing a laugh, explaining a tricky concept, or cheering students on from the sidelines, Nick brings heart, humour, and hope to every lesson.

Anson

Meet Anson: High School Tutor & Strategic Thinker (Both in Maths and in Chess!)

Anson is one of those tutors who makes even the toughest questions feel conquerable… and maybe even fun. Currently studying a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Arts (Major in Politics) at the University of Sydney, he brings sharp analytical thinking and calm, clear explanations to every lesson.

A former Marist College Kogarah student (ATAR 91.7, Band 6 in Maths Advanced, and top of his cohort… casual), Anson knows what it takes to master challenging subjects and enjoys helping students build that same quiet confidence.

When he’s not tutoring, you’ll probably find him analysing chess moves, naming every country in the world (yes, really), or experimenting with his beloved Pomodoro technique: study for 25 minutes, rest for 5, repeat until you feel like a genius.

Anson believes learning is about patience and perseverance. His favourite thing about tutoring at Future Focus Hub? “Seeing my students solve a difficult question.” It’s that mix of strategy, encouragement, and “keep calm and believe in yourself” that makes him such a steady presence in every classroom.
